The Missing Ingredient in Your Wellness Routine with Kiesha Yokers

Today, Kiesha, Head of Breathwork and Somatic Programs, and I are taking a deep dive into incorporating breathwork into our wellness routines to reset our nervous systems into the parasympathetic state so that we can truly relax and rest our bodies.

By the end of this episode, you may be so connected with your breath that you’ll already feel the calm enveloping you. If you are ready to harness the power of your nervous system and access your inner calm you can’t miss this episode.

Kiesha gives us tools to work through our daily stressors

You may remember Kiesha Yokers from episode 79. She is a breathwork facilitator that uses somatic tools to address trauma in the body. In addition to being a certified holistic health coach, she uses her background in education to connect us to breathwork concepts in ways that are easy to understand, digest and implement.

And now Kiesha is officially the Head of Breathwork and Somatic Programs at Lindywell. In addition to creating the Breathwork for Mental Clarity, Breathwork for Sleep, Breathwork for Anxiety, and Breathwork for Grounding and Gratitude sessions in the app.

Stress affects us in multiple ways

Living in our modern world often causes us to maintain a constant state of stress. Stress affects us in a number of ways: it affects sleep, brings on aches and pains, affects digestion, the ability to recover from illness, and even reduces longevity.

The way out of this stressful state is to live in a permanent state of calm by slowing down and connecting the mind and body. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done.

One way to do this is through breathwork. Breathwork is a way to navigate and mitigate stress in our lives so that we can make the journey in the best way possible.

Kiesha helps give us tools and practices so that we can stay healthy. While none of us can remove stress from our lives forever, with the right tools we can understand how to manage it.

The missing ingredient in our wellness routines

Pilates is one of the few forms of exercise that connects the mind and body. While we work through the movements we also focus on breathing which is one reason that we all feel so good after our Pilates workouts.

The main way to support our nervous system is to use breathwork. Breathwork is a way to slow down and create more rest in our lives. By using breathwork tools we have a way to come back to a state of calm.

  1. I think there are a lot of positives about this pod cast. I have seen yoga teachers, school teachers therapists, doctors prescribe injury or a slow up of students or patients because they are jealous or would like to overtake the student, because of regional, gender, or other prejudice. So I think noting the positive impulse of perfectionism is important for students, then redirecting it positively or more deeply is important. we all have different stress tolerances and requirements from our work and would not get in the way of a fighter pilot, for example. I would love to hear a session about breathing for aerobic capacity.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing, Angela! This is a great suggestion too. I’ll be sure to share with Kiesha and the team so we can take it into consideration as we plan for the future.
