3 YouTube Videos For Back Pain

Do you struggle with back pain?

Or maybe just annoying tension in your shoulders and neck?

It’s estimated that 80% of Americans will deal with back pain at some point in their life. Our daily habits of sitting, typing, texting, and driving certainly contribute to this problem. In fact, back pain, shoulder pain, and stress-related tension is what led me to Pilates nearly 10 years ago.

And thankfully, Pilates healed me. My back pain is gone and I have the the Pilates method to thank. The combination of stretching, strengthening and connecting my mind to my body transformed the way I felt each day. And I have SO many clients who can say the same.

ALL of my workouts help with back pain in some way, but there are 3 in particular that will really help if you’re suffering from pain, tension and tightness today.

  1. I’m a runner and I’ve had back pain since I started running. However I’ve been doing your 30 day pilates challenge for about a week and even after the first two days I felt a difference! I’m so grateful, and haven’t stopped talking about how great it feels 🙂 quick question, what reformer do you own, and do you recommend any that are compact/not too expensive? Thanks.

    1. Hi Judy!

We are so glad you are enjoying the 30 Day Pilates Body Challenge! Pilates is such a wonderful addition to running – and can really benefit your running form! Robin recommends the Allegro 2 Reformer with legs. You can find more information about it under Robin’s Favorites on our website! Unfortunately, Robin does not have a recommendation for a smaller/less expensive model as she does not feel comfortable recommending items she has not tried herself! 🙂

    1. Hi Miriam! This is really a personal preference – we find that everyone handles them differently! You could start by using a tennis ball to get an idea of the size and firmness and work from there! 🙂

  2. So excited to see these videos as I have struggled with chronic back pain. Mine is specifically in my lower back (SI) joint. Is it a good idea to use the small ball on the lower back or is that more just for upperback?

    1. Hi Rachael! We are so glad you can utilize these videos! As far as your lower back SI Joint pain, we recommend you speak with your doctor or PT for specific recommendations and modifications!

  3. Robin, your video on How to Release Knots in Your Back is a lifesaver! I always have knots, especially around my shoulder blades, and this gives relief I’ve not found elsewhere. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Before COVID I was doing Pilates at a studio and the provided modifications for people with back problems. Since then I’ve developed stenosis in L1,2 and 3, and annular tear in L4 and 5, as well as scoliosis (26% curve). Do any of your beginner routines have modifications for back problems?

    1. We’re sorry to hear of your back problems, Joyce! While modifications are provided for many exercises, we do recommend speaking with your health care professional to determine which exercises are safe and recommended for you based on your individual needs. If your health care professional agrees, we’d love for you to join us in a 14-day free trial so you can experience for yourself! You may join here: https://lindywell.com/
