Do you like to cook?
I don’t mind cooking, but it hasn’t always been that way. When I first started cooking for myself, I wasn’t very confident in the kitchen.
I know it sounds weird, but I can honestly say that investing in a few, new utensils for my kitchen has made cooking (and doing so in a healthy way) less stressful and more enjoyable.
In today’s video, I’m going to show you some of my favorite kitchen utensils that make preparing healthy meals easier and less stressful. Can I get an amen?

So, without further ado, here are my top 7 kitchen tools:

I love my glass food storage containers. We have dropped them a million times and only in the last year or so have we started to break off parts of the lids. We’ve had most of them for at least 8 years. The other problem we have started running into is the gaskets on the lids get some nasty funky black stuff (probably mold) on them. I try to take them out regularly and it is just impossible to get out of the grooves in the gaskets once it is in there.
Has anyone come up with an easy way to get them clean? I tried soaking them overnight in dish soap and that helped, but I am now thinking I just need to replace them with something else…I just haven’t found another affordable solution yet.
As fantastic as glass containers are, I have to say that lids had been always a lowdown. I also tried many things and finally settled for one thing that worked: I clean them thoroughly with dish soap and a small brush. Then, I soak them in white vinegar for a couple of hours. This has also the benefit of being organic (specially since I am allergic to many chlorine products). And the smell disappears 😉
If you want to try something not as cheap, there are some effervescent pills (made to clean drinking flasks) that are great too.
You may find baking soda works better for cleaning than dish detergent. Also, when we had a problem with lids breaking we contacted the company. We were able to purchase replacement lids which were very reasonably priced.
On another note, cooking with the right tools does make a huge difference! We purchased a good quality immersion blender. It totally changed the quality of salad dressings, smoothies and the ability tocream foods in a pot on the stove.
what about the Rosle garlic press that doesn’t require peeling the garlic – I sure can’t live without that! We put garlic in everything.
Thank you for this post. As a result of seeing your video the other day on Facebook I have just come home from IKEA with a set of 3 glass storage containers and an extra large one (like a glass brownie pan but with the same clip-on lid) that I wasn’t planning on getting but it was on a Family Member deal! I can never leave IKEA with just the item I came in for!
Looking forward to using them, I think they’ll be especially useful for not staining as I often need to store pasta sauce and soup and my plastic ones are quite orange now! I do like that they go in the oven too. I’ll look out for keeping the gaskets clean, thanks to other posters for the warning.
Can you make pesto in your VitaMix? I use my chefs knife for everything so don’t have a food processor. I want to keep my kitchen utensils to a minimum. I would consider replacing my decades old blender with a VitaMix though.
Hi Sandy! Absolutely – I have heard of people using their Vitamin for pesto with great success. Go for it! You won’t regret it. 🙂
Robin mentioned a brand of salt in the video. Can I get a link to the salt she was talking about? Thanks!
Yes! Here’s the link to Robin’s favorite salt: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00944ORXY/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=thebalalifeap-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00944ORXY&linkId=fff99986a4bb1346616ba783c2cfc1db&th=1
FINALLY bought a citrus squeezer last week. I shouldn’t admit this, but, the primary reason is for our margarita making! But I’m sure I’ll put it to use in other ways too. 😉
Nice post. Great ideas allover. You have gathered everything in one place. Such a helpful things. Keep doing the great job.
