Hi Beauties!
Summer is in full swing and that means it’s vacation season for a lot of us! Whether you’re looking forward to a quick weekend away, or you have a month-long adventure around the corner, movement and maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle can easily fall to the bottom of the travel planning list.
I get it. Getting ready to travel means lots of organizing of schedules and making sure you have everything in place before you go. That’s why fitting in movement throughout the day during your travels may be the last thing on your mind.
But, I’ve got you covered!
Here are the 5 best travel workouts for summer vacations so you can enjoy some leisure time and still reap the rewards of taking caring of your health.
1. Take the scenic route.
Instead of pulling up your favorite rideshare app, map out a walkable route! This not only lets you see a new city from a different perspective, but your body will thank you. There are so many health benefits associated with just 30 minutes of brisk walking, such as:
- Reduced joint and muscle pain.
- Improved balance.
- Lower risk of heart disease and high cholesterol.
Not to mention that the increased blood flow will leave you feeling energized! And who doesn’t want that? ?
2. Make a splash!
If you’ll be heading somewhere with water, you might try renting a kayak or taking a SUP (stand-up paddle board) class. These are great workouts for your arms and core. And bonus! You’ll get the added benefit of enjoying the scenery around you while floating along the water.
You can also keep it simple and just go for a swim or play at the beach! Swimming is an excellent workout, because the resistance of the water will get your heart and lungs working hard while still keeping you cool.

3. Roll out your mat!
One of the biggest perks about Pilates is that you don’t need a lot of equipment to get in a great workout. Bring your Pilates mat or travel yoga mat and log in to The Balanced Life Sisterhood to get a great Pilates workout anytime, anywhere! Not a member yet? Try the 5-Day Pilates Jumpstart to get a taste of our online workouts.
If you don’t have the space to tote your mat along with you, try a barre routine or this Pilates-inspired HIIT workout. It’s a favorite when I don’t have a lot of time, but I want to get in a good sweat!
4. Hit the trails.
Go for a hike or a run, and explore the outdoor views wherever you’re visiting. Use an app like AllTrails to find recommended routes and record your exercise activity. Whatever you do, make sure you use your time outdoors to disconnect from life’s daily noise and really soak up your time away. Not only will you get in a great workout, but you’ll return from your travels feeling refreshed! ?
5. Sneak in a hotel room workout.
A great workout on the go doesn’t have to require a lot of fancy equipment. You can still fit in a short, effective workout with a jump rope or Theraband. If you’ve been around The Balanced Life for a while, you know that just 10 minutes of controlled movements can give you amazing results!
By adding some simple items to your packing list, you can get a solid workout without having to hit the hotel gym. If you’re a Sisterhood member, check out the Toning Towel Workout in the Workout Library. And if you want to ease your tired feet after a day of exploring, try these Theraband Exercises for Feet and Ankles.
So, there you have it! Incorporating exercise while you travel can really make your trip more fun. By blending movement into your travel plans, you get the added benefit of enjoying your destination and fitting in some extra self-care.
Whatever travel workout you choose to do, find something fun so you’ll be sure to make it happen with your busy travel schedule. Your mind and body will thank you!
