Hi Beauties,
One of the most common questions I receive is, “How do you find time to workout?”
Sometimes I long for my younger days when I had much more free time to go to the gym, go for long runs, and prioritize my own fitness. These days, it’s a little harder.
I get the struggle.
On any given day, most of us are juggling a long list of responsibilities: work, travel, housework, cooking, errands, children, relationships, self-care, etc.
In addition to sharing my own tips, I thought it would be fun to ask our team here at The Balanced Life how they find time to workout. We are all in unique situations of life, so hopefully between the six of us, you’ll find some good tips that will work for you too!

I set very small goals for myself most days. I commit to 10-15 minutes of exercise and if I accomplish that, I call it a win. If I get lucky and get to do more, it’s a double win!
These 10-15 minute sessions take place:
- first thing in the morning before the whole house is awake
- during bath time (this is my go-to when the day has gotten away from me)
- after I get the kids down for bed, but BEFORE I retire to the couch for the evening
- while my kids are playing by my side, out in the yard, or on the living room floor
Thank goodness for portable online workouts! 🙂

Honestly, I am still trying to figure it out. With every new season of life (I have a one-year-old and three-year-old), I am constantly readjusting and rescheduling time to exercise. Here’s what’s been working for me in this season:
- Scheduling reminders in my phone that remind me to get on my mat. I also like that I get to check it off once I’m done!
- Starting (not always finishing) a Pilates workout while my kids are playing. Although I usually end up being a jungle gym, I remind myself that 10 minutes of intentional movement is better than nothing!
- Changing my perspective to adding more “movement” in my day, even if it’s not a traditional workout. Whether that’s going for a walk, playing tag in the yard, or chasing after my girls on their bikes and scooters.

I incorporate my son in my workouts – lifting him during my bridges, or giving him kisses with each push up! I also:
- Set my alarm for half an hour before my son wakes up!
- Take walks during play time, and I make an effort to do hills (pushing our stroller up) for some cardio!

I like to workout after work as a way to unwind and relax after sitting at my computer all day.
- I keep my mat rolled out and everything ready to go, so I have no excuse. 🙂
- And, always set out my workout clothes to help minimize decisions that might keep me from my workout.

If I put something on my to-do list for the day, it will get done. I’m task-oriented, and I love crossing things off my list.
- I make sure to put my workout close to the top!
- For shorter Pilates workouts, I’ve learned to be okay with doing them in my PJ’s. That way, I don’t have to change my clothes more than once in the morning, and I can’t use the excuse that “I don’t have time to choose several outfits in the morning.”

I like to work out in the morning because I know I’ll get it done and it helps me start my day on a positive note.
- To make sure I fit it in each day, I have a recurring alarm set (on my phone) for the same time, Monday through Friday. Because it never changes, it saves me from trying to decide the night before whether or not I want to work out in the morning. 🙂 When the alarm goes off, I know what to do!
Did you find any new tips you’re going to try from the team? How do you prioritize your workouts? Let us know in the comments.

This was so helpful! Thank you for sharing ladies. I love to hear that you are still figuring things out Becky and how you constantly have to make adjustments. I get discouraged easily and I allow myself to fall into the “all or nothing” trap. If I can’t do a full 30 minute workout than I just won’t do anything 😉 Not a good plan! Thanks for the ideas to make a better one!
Thank you for another article that addresses a very real issue. I have no excuse as I am newly retired, but am trying to figure out my new normal!
Throwing a wrench into my workouts was a fall I had while skating 2 weeks ago, leaving me with a bruised tailbone, which is taking longer to heal tha I thought it would. I have just been walking so far and was wondering if there are any gentle workouts you could recommend or suggest during the healing process.
Happy new year!
