This is soooo sweet, to the point that it doesn’t actually taste good. I only added a tsp of maple syrup (instead of the recommended 2 Tbsp) and it’s still overwhelming. Next time, I will try this with the milk and coffee quantities swapped, and no maple syrup.
Just as with Rachel, I found it very sweet, and it overpowered the coffee taste for me (I don’t have sugar with my coffee, so I found myself searching for the coffee flavour). I’ll try swapping the coffee and milk ratios around to get the coffee taste back to the forefront, and halving the maple syrup and see how that goes.
Love the concept, especially as a morning coffee swap as the days get warmer where I am. Will definitely be tweaking this one to keep as a breakfast go-to!
Recipe notes: I had omitted the vanilla as my (collagen) protein powder is vanilla flavoured, used almond milk as it was what I had on hand, and added a couple of big handfuls of ice to make it super cold.
Thank you very much for your feedback, Claire! ?
I really enjoyed this. After reading the other comments I just used a dash of maple syrup and vanilla extract so it wasn’t too sweet.
So happy to hear you enjoyed this – especially with the adjustments. ??
I loved this one! Left out the vanilla and maple syrup and the banana alone gives me enough sweetness. Yum!
So glad you enjoyed this recipe, Midori!
Really like this and will make it again. I did leave out the maple syrup as I don’t like overly sweet things. I’ll also try swapping the milk and coffee quantities just to bump up the coffee flavor and maybe add a little ice.
So glad to hear you enjoyed this recipe, Cathie! ?
This was so good! I cut out the syrup as well and added a bit of greens and chia seeds. I’ll definitely make this again soon.
That’s a great idea for added nutrients, Courtney! ?
This was delicious! As others have said it’s a bit sweet but an easy fix, just use less maple syrup.
I must have a pretty strong sweet tooth. I cut the amount of syrup in half and found it too bitter. But two tablespoons of maple syrup is definitely too much sugar for me since I have insulin resistance, so I’ll stick with less syrup. I love coffee, so I’ll definitely be making this one again!
That makes sense, Summer! Glad to hear you are tweaking the recipe to suit your body’s needs. 🙂
Hi, does anyone have advice for substituting bananas? I love smoothies but the majority of the recipes contain bananas and I just can’t force myself to like them- texture AND taste!
Hi Natalie! You could use blueberries, strawberries, or another kind of fruit you enjoy! Please let us know your substitution and how you enjoyed it after giving it a try. 🙂
